Eye Health
read moreIt's easy to overlook your eyes when it comes to caring for your health, but there are simple things you can do every day to help keep your sight in shape. Here are some easy ways to get started. As well as an eye health check, a sight test might help detect signs of underlying general health conditions, such as diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Everyone should have a sight test every two years, or more often if your optometrist recommends it. Eating a healthy, balanced diet reduces your risk of eye disease.
Specialist Contact Lenses
read moreIf you have had trouble wearing contact lenses or have been told you're not a good candidate for "contacts", you simply may have eyes that are "hard to fit." This doesn't necessarily mean you can't wear contact lenses, and at Optical eye Lusions we specialise in advanced contact lens fittings. If you have keratoconus and cannot see as clearly as you would like to with spectacles, you typically will see better if you are fitted with contact lenses specially designed for irregular corneas. Custom Toric contact lenses are specially designed contacts that correct astigmatism.
Fundus Imaging
read moreThe fundus camera is a special microscope attached to a digital camera, this enables us to take an image of the back of your eye (known as the fundus or retina). Digital imaging can help with early detection and monitor the health of your eyes conditions such as glaucoma, high blood pressure, diabetes, macular degeneration, we can show you any changes and explain any conditions in greater detail. These images are stored on our digital practice software and they can be a useful comparison for any ongoing changes.
Dry Eye Clinic
read moreDry eye occurs when your tear flow reduces or evaporates too quickly, causing the very sensitive front surface of your eye to dry out. However, there are many causes of dry eye and at the Dry Eye Clinic, we will carefully consider your own symptoms. We will undertake a specialist examination of your tears, recommend the latest treatments to alleviate those symptoms and ensure that you leave knowing exactly how to treat your particular condition with a bespoke care plan. We will then invite you to return for follow-up appointments to fine tune your treatment over a period of up to 3 months.
Glaucoma Eye Disease
read moreGlaucoma is a group of eye diseases in which the optic nerve, which connects your eye to your brain, is damaged by the pressure of the fluid inside your eye. This may be because the pressure is higher than normal, or because the nerve is more susceptible to damage from pressure. There are two main types of glaucoma: chronic glaucoma, which happens slowly and acute glaucoma which happens quickly. Chronic glaucoma is much more common than acute glaucoma. When the nerve is damaged, it can start to cause problems with the peripheral vision (side vision) and, if left untreated, can cause permanent damage.
Spectacle Lenses
read moreThe simplest form of spectacles is the single-vision lens, made to a single prescription to correct a particular eyesight problem. Myopia or short sight is corrected with concave lenses, whilst convex lenses are used to correct for long sight or hypermetropia. The curvature of the lens, its thickness and weight will depend on the amount of long or short sight it is designed to correct. The lens material will also influence the thickness and weight of your lenses, as will the size and shape of the glasses frame you choose.
