Medicine On Time Services
Pharmacy in Sheffield, South Yorkshire
The firm was established in 1951 when 45 independent pharmacists in Sheffield joined to supply a late night and out of hours service to the people of Sheffield. Associated Chemists opened at 61 Wicker in January 1952 and was the 1st example of a consortium owned pharmacy. The pharmacy has been open every day since. The idea of an Associated Chemist was the masterplan of Cyril Hobson and Len Stocks, both Sheffield pharmacists. They realised that the pharmacy service in the evenings and weekends was not fully meeting the needs of the public. Before 1952 the people of Sheffield had to rely on the nice offices of resident pharmacists to supply an after hours service.
