Articles & Videos About Flashings
read moreWhen we painted this flat roof with solar reflective paint, I left a test area so I could see the temperature difference of the old flat roof covering without solar reflective paint and with solar reflective paint. Can you confirm whether (in order to meet building regs) lead flashing is required over the top of the up stands? I noticed in a video you used the term ‘self terminate'? Also, should the ‘fleece' be cut into the wall as you would normally see with lead flashing? The lead on these flat roofs is beginning to oxidise and break up before the end of its lifespan.
Articles & Videos About Inverted
read moreInverted roofs, or upside down roofs, have the insulation laid onto the waterproofing membrane. There is normally some ballast to hold the insulation down. The problem with this kind of flat roof is that if maintenance is needed or there is a leak from the flat roof, it's very difficult to find the leak, as you will see large areas of the insulation have to be removed, just to look at the flat roof covering.
Articles & Videos About Roof Repair
read moreThe old London roof with an internal box gutter has its problems, when first designed it solved the problem of what to do with drainage water from a slate or pitched roof in a crowded town environment. I can attend the property and carry out repairs to the main roof around the solar panels and the area around the skylights for the sum of 220+vat normally repairs will work and last for over 6 months however I cannot guarantee to firstly find the exact problem and secondly if I find it guarantee it will last, however using some of today's new roofing products we have a great success rate.
Articles & Videos About Roof Decking
read moreExpansion and contraction in OSB is not a problem ( I think) As far as I know, no gaps needed in 18mm T+G OSB the expansion is built-in. The lower part of the T+G this doesn't meet the other side; however, the top use so I don't understand how that works! I know they are moving over to a new under T+G soon, but that's all I know. I've tried reading the BS EN 1995-1-1:2004+A1:2008 Eurocode 5: ( 145 pages but went to sleep) Tongue and groove do I leave expansion joints The expansion per meter if it gets damp is recorded at.03mm so it's not much we always leave a perimeter gape of 10 mm and push the bards together lightly; some never go tight as the edges are fragile and brake and bind.

Articles & Videos About Lead
read moreThis old box gutter was in lead but unfortunately started to leak, as the lead had split in several places The customer wanted a long term solution, so it was decided that the box gutters would be lined with the new SD650 system. The lead on these flat roofs is beginning to oxidise and break up before the end of its lifespan. Lead on roofs and flat roofs are supposed to last 30 to 60 years with very little maintenance. What we see more and more is lack of ventilation and roofs sweating; this problem is happening because of the lack of ventilation under the lead flashings.
Articles & Videos About GacoRoof
read moreI am in the US and have been told by 3M that the SD650 is not available in the US nor do they expect it to be available any time soon. Do you know of any com parables that might be available in the US? The SD650 looks like just what I need. Two things go to make a roof cheaper the cost of the materials and the labour to lay the materials. Gacoroof is not only cheaper to buy by 30% its also around 50% cheaper to lay as no primers and no embedment layer, two stages that just don't have to be undertaken.
