About Us
read moreRu was the first Golden Retriever we owned. We rescued Ru at a little under 2 years old. Ru has been a loyal companion and has put his paw to many things. He has his KC Gold Award and has competed in Obedience, Heelwork to Music and Agility. Ru was the dog that got the family up to Grade 3 in Agility. Ru has stepped back a little now to enjoy middle age but still competes in Rally. Narla is the first Goldie that we chose from birth. Narla shares the same sire as Ru but has a far stronger working drive.

The Course follows the content of the Kennel Club Good Citizens Scheme, meaning that the Course is structured and has set exercises that should be achieved by the end of the Course. We will also include additional content such as target and movement work. At the end of 8 weeks, there will be the option to enroll for an additional 2 weeks to take the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme Bronze award.

You may need to be creative with your Dogs "working" to ensure that you get a name that you want. Once you have registered your dog you will be able to enter Kennel Club competitions. You can monitor forthcoming shows here and work out ones in the local area. A few months before the show, the entry form and schedule will be available to download.

read moreIt will allow you to work on increasing your dogs confidence and skills. There is no test or exam at the end, the course aims to create lots of fun for dogs and their owners and look to further the handlers understanding and training skills. This is a 8 week course and is good for working or active dogs. It has also helped a lot of dogs that have found the formal training challenging or a little boring. The lessons increase core strength and body awareness whilst challenging the dogs mind through clicker training.

read moreThere are a number of Levels in Rally but everyone starts in Level 1. At Level 1 there are 15 signs making up the Course plus a Bonus. As the level increases, the number of signs increases along with the difficulty of the tasks required. Meg and I have just started the Rally course at Little Orchard, it's a great way to really connect with your dog. By working closely with Meg on each of the Rally exercises I've found that it has really helped steady her. It has definitely made me think carefully about how we communicate but most of all it's a great way to have fun with training and put into practise all the things we have learnt so far.

read moreWe have all breeds and sizes of dogs on our Agility Courses. It is especially good stimulation for working breed dogs or dogs that find obedience training difficult to concentrate on. Agility can be great fun for handlers too, increasing your bond with your dog, your understanding of each other and is great exercise. All training is done in a positive way and we are happy for you to use treats, praise, toys, and clicker training. No rough handling of dogs is allowed at any of our lessons. If this occurs you may be warned but if it persists you may be asked to leave the course.

read moreIn light of the great news recently with Scotland Banning Shock Collars, we hope the UK follows suit soon. It has always been the case that shock, vibration and spray collars have not been allowed at Little Orchard Classes. After a great deal of thought and discussion, we will now challenge inappropriate use of "Anti Pull" / "Stop Pull" harnesses, slip leads and the use of extending leads at KC Puppy Classes and KC Bronze Classes. This may result in the trainer asking for the item to be removed and an alternative offered.

read moreOur Gun dog training is truly positive, fun and kind and about as far away from purest gun dog training as you can imagine. We work with pet dogs having a lot of fun and run a mixture of weekly regular groups, guest workshops and 121 trial lessons or to work on a specific element of the training. Daisy, coming from a gun dog breeder, has a passion for retrieving. But, I preferred the more relaxed style of training at Little Orchard to the strict form at recognised gun dog clubs. Sam, being a very big bouncy Labrador, from working parents, has benefited from the Little Orchard gun dog sessions.
