Lanterna Restaurant

Restaurant in Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Restaurant in Scarborough, North Yorkshire . Daily specials, including fish that Giorgio selects daily at the harbour, and vegetables religiously di stagione, keeps it lively. Italian produce - including wine, the remarkable prosciutto San Daniele, oils and truffles - is imported direct, and menus are Italian, in language and structure. A section of dishes, including the revered white truffle, and two pages (one of hand-made pasta, another of risotti using carnaroli rice) show how they are put to nice use. Puddings include pannacotta, zabaglione and more, service by Rachel, is well informed and happy.

Lanterna Restaurant
read moreA Yorkshire institution, La Lanterna Ristorante has stood on the same site in Queen Street for almost 40 years now. Chef-patron Giorgio Alessio bought it in 1997, and has worked tirelessly ever since to live up to the accolade given it by the influential Italian daily newspaper La Stampa - 'the English temple of Italian cuisine'. This is not a restaurant to visit if you're after pizza. This is an altogether more refined form of Italian cucina, hailing from Giorgio's native Piedmont in northern Italy, where the cooler climate and misty autumns call for comfort food of the highest order - game, risotto, pasta, hazelnuts, chocolate - and, of course, the Lanterna's speciality, truffles.
About Us
read moreChef-patron Giorgio Alessio inspires almost as much affection from his regulars and reviewers as his food does. Both also loved the food, by the way - the first, Kevin Gould, enjoying a 'sublime late spring seaside meal'; the second, Pascal Wyse, praising 'all the passion [that] comes out in the food, which steams with pride for the products of both Yorkshire and Piedmont, and a determination to reveal them at their best'. But listen to Giorgio talk about his food, and you'll understand the true meaning of the word.
Lanterna Ristorante

The aim is to use good, fresh local ingredients, and to persuade people that good food need not be complicated. If you don't believe me, just take a look at the egg and truffle recipe on page 19 - nothing could be easier, or more delicious! Enjoy the book.
