Hello, I'm Ken Charles, senior partner in Langstone Direct.

I am a retired Chartered Management Accountant, with over forty years experience in manufacturing industry, with large and small companies. I was the controller in the UK operations of two large multinational companies and then, initially at the request of the Welsh Office, I took on the role of consultant to small and medium-sized companies throughout Wales.

Now I build websites, mainly for local businesses, where the environment has changed drastically over the last few years, not only because of the economic turmoil that has followed the credit crunch. Internet technology and changing social habits have altered the marketplace for local businesses.

So, why the drastic change in focus? you may ask. Three reasons:

There is a crying need for many small businesses to realise the opportunities presented by the internet. According to the Federation of Small Businesses, "no more than half of Britain's small to medium-sized businesses have a web presence."
There is an opportunity to work with many different individuals, in a variety of situations.
