Located in the historic centre of the city, an archaeological dig took place on the site before building work started - which showed that there had been a Roman prescence at the site. The building is in the shadow of the impressive Lancaster Castle, owned by HM the Queen. The Pendle witches were tried, convicted and sentenced to death. George Fox, the founder of the Quaker movement was imprisoned here for two years. Many prisoners convicted here were transported to Australia.
