Getting Started
read moreWhere do I
start?

It depends really
on you and the choices you want to make. Some people prefer to start at the
very beginning and systematically work through how they got to where they are
now, others prefer to focus on the here and now only. There is no right or
wrong way, and most journeys will take the same route of self-learning
irrespective of where you begin. The most important thing to do now is to get
comfortable in your own skin and learn about you and what you are, only then can
you know where you want to go. This is often more revealing and challenging
than identifying your end goals. So why not begin with this simple exercise and
see how you get on. You can either choose to start from the beginning of your
story or from the page which you are on now, it doesn't matter as long as you
are truthful to yourself in your answers.

The focus is now on
me.

Firstly, grab a diary, notebook or lever-arch folder. This is going to be your mental mapping and needs to be private, accessible (at this stage) only to you. In the next few sessions, you will be challenging yourself to be honest and open WITH YOURSELF, something that is not always easily forthcoming. In your diary/notebook, create a section 'Who am I?'. This is the beginning of your exploration into self-discovery, allowing your vulnerabilities to be spoken aloud, written down and acknowledged by your worst critic - your inner voice.
Reaching Further
read moreRecognising your desire to stretch yourself further than you have ever ventured
before is an important step in your self-development and one that underpins your
future successes. Most of us can feel dissatisfied at times with aspects of our
lives, but whether we choose to commit to doing something about them to change
how we feel is the key to whether we develop.

Sometimes it can feel
exhilarating and energising, other times it can feel scary and lonely. These
opposite reactions are perfectly normal and reflect how you feel and where you
are in the commitment stage for change. It isn't always a straightforward
continuum of moving from insecurities and anxiety to confidence and
self-assuredness, you move back and forth as you explore the changes you are
making and change your outlook on your life, but it is all positive movement
forward - that's the important thing to remember when you are feeling insecure
or frustrated with yourself.

And this is where I can help you you most
to move through and remain focused on you. Spending time talking, exploring and
reflecting on where you are, and where you are reaching for helps you to
focalise on your inner voice, that powerful chatty self in your head that can
hold you up, or hold you back!

It is important that you work through the
information I have provided for you on the getting started and moving closer
pages first, however, before you overcome your urge to share your story with me.
You need to first work on letting go of anything that may be holding you back
from your past experiences (remember life coaching is always about looking and
moving forward, not looking back). If you need help with this aspect, often
counselling can be the best source of support and guidance, and I have included
some links for you to have a look at.

Sometimes, we may start the process
of working together and find that we need to stop while you overcome difficult
issues that resurface from your past - that's okay, it happens to everyone until
they have truly managed to reach a state of peace with their own stories.
