Getting involved with music through lessons and playing in bands and ensembles has been proved to bring a wealth of social, emotional and educational benefits to people of all ages. Musica Kirklees provides instrumental and vocal lessons to learners of all ages and all abilities, both in and out of school time.

read moreOur work takes us to all areas of Kirklees and we are constantly searching for funds to support music making in a huge variety of ways. Whether it be one off projects; regular activities; purchase and repair of instruments; sponsering a concert; buying music for ensembles; supporting individual children in disadvantaged circumstances or a whole host of other ventures, you could help to support the work we do. Musica Kirklees can accept donations in person by cash or by cheque and postal order made payable to 'Musica Kirklees'.

read moreMy child appears on the school register for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities - is it possible to have lessons? What happens if I choose Option A or Option B lessons but there are no pupils to share the lessons with? If lessons are not immediately available you will be added to our waiting list and contacted when there is a space. For school age children attending most Kirklees schools lessons take place in school and during school hours where possible. In high schools, Musica Kirklees staff will where possible try to teach pupils on a rota basis to avoid missing the same class every week.

read moreParents/carers - you may find it useful to look through these with your child. Deciding which instrument you would like to learn to play is very exciting! Some people will already have chosen their favourite instrument; if you haven't picked yours yet, there are a lot to choose from! Each of the instrument guides recommends a piece of music or artist to listen to - you can usually find clips of these to watch and listen to on video sharing websites. This should help you identify the unique sound quality of each instrument.

read moreWe will be constantly adding activities and videos to our Resources for Curriculum Music page for all schools, pupils and their parents/carers to access to continue to support the work usually done in classroom settings. We also have Resources for Pupils taking instrumental and vocal lessons including a range of worksheets and tutorial videos for students taking music lessons. We offer many services to schools and we are always keen to develop and support music and the performing arts in Kirklees schools.
