HG Scadgell

Worthing has without doubt some very fine shops, and one of the oldest and most outstanding is that of H. G. Scadgell Ltd, Worthing's biggest furniture store. The founder of the firm, Mr H. G. Scadgell, came to Worthing in 1919 and shortly afterwards opened a furniture shop in Warwick Street. A year or two later the business was transferred to a bigger property at 110 Montague Street, where it gradually grew to such an extent that still bigger premises were required. By the 1950s the store had expanded to encompass the block which it occupies today.
