We regularly carry out research at the Register of Births, Deaths and Marriages in respect of genealogical investigations and the tracing of beneficiaries. We also have a great deal of experience in researching similar registers in England and Wales, enabling us to provide a full UK service in this respect. As far as tracing beneficiaries is concerned, we are also able to draw on our team of experienced in-house investigators.

read moreOur incident investigations generally involve road traffic incidents. However, we are frequently tasked to investigate industrial incidents, including off-shore incidents, requiring us to obtain witness statements, take relevant digital photographs and video, and liaise with expert witnesses in the field with whom we have formed alliances over the years. We act on behalf of a number of insurance companies and solicitors in relation to road traffic incident investigations. We have significant experience of interviewing witnesses, including police witnesses, undertaking locus (scene of an incident) inspections and taking digital photographs and measurements.

read moreGrant & McMurtrie offers a full investigation service in respect of civil and criminal matters. This includes litigation support and intelligence research, as well as the obtaining of evidence through witness statements/precognitions. We are regularly tasked to obtain evidence for prosecution purposes, particularly where a client only has suspicions of criminal activity and not sufficient evidence to involve the police. After obtaining relevant evidence, we often cooperate with the police by providing them with the evidence we have gathered.

read moreAfter serving in the Armed Forces, John Grant started out in the private investigation sector and, in 1965, he established the firm of Grant & McMurtrie. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Investigators (since 1976) and was in fact the first Principal of the Institute (1976-1979). He is also a Member of the Royal Military Police Association (since 1957) and the Associated Licensed Detectives of New York State (since 1974). John Grant was the originator of the Private Investigators (Registration) Bill 1984 which the Institute of Professional Investigators has long been trying to have passed through Parliament in an attempt to have the profession regulated in Scotland.
