Fantastic choice of frames, with prices to suit everyone's pocket. Liz and her team bring their professionalism, humour and personal touches to make you feel welcome and are a safe pair of hands. Everything is sanitised and beautifully clean. Thanks Liz, Debbie and Andrea.

read moreEyecare is an essential public health function and as such we remain open during the pandemic. Due to limited capacity we may need to prioritise those with urgent or essential needs, or those who feel that they have a change in their vision, but can still offer routine care where capacity allows. We are currently not open on Saturdays, but are hoping to review this in due course. We have made numerous changes to our practice and procedures to ensure the safety of our patients and staff in line with government and professional guidance.
Covid-19
read moreWhilst we are proud to be able to look after our patients at this difficult time, we treat the safety of our patients and staff with the utmost importance and have therefore made some changes to our procedures. Please telephone the practice to make an appointment. If your call is not answered immediately, please be patient and leave a message and one of our staff will return your call as soon as possible. You may be asked more questions than usual over the telephone, such as your reason for booking the appointment and questions about your general health and family history.
Children's Eyecare
read moreWhilst as parents we are very good at getting our children's teeth checked, we often forget that eye checks are just as important. Sight tests are free on the NHS for all children under 16. Young children will very rarely tell us that they have a problem with their sight, as to them what they are seeing is normal. Most children have excellent sight and do not need to wear glasses but if there are problems and they are not picked up at an early age, a child may have permanently reduced vision in one or both eyes.
Eye Health
read moreRegular check ups Get your eyes tested every two years even if you think your vision is fine. Some eye conditions such as glaucoma may not give symptoms in the early stages, and may cause irreversible damage, so regular check-ups are vital. Kick the habit Smoking is directly linked to blindness. Smokers are up to four times more likely to develop macular degeneration compared to past smokers or non smokers. Maintain a healthy diet Studies have shown that a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, especially those containing vitamins C, E, lutein, zeaxanthin and zinc (found in leafy green vegetables such as kale, spinach and broccoli, as well as carrots and peppers) can help to protect against common age related vision problems such as cataract and macular degeneration.
Nhs
read moreElizabeth Pope Opticians offer both NHS and private eye examinations. Many people are entitled to free NHS examinations through age, low income or on medical grounds. Please note that the NHS examination is limited and you may be recommended to have other procedures at an additional cost eg. If you do not fall into one of the above categories but feel you might be eligible for NHS help because of low income, please ask us for an HC1 form which you can send off to apply for NHS treatment. For age related claims, proof of date of birth (birth certificate/passport) will be requested, and if under 19 in full time education a letter from school or college confirming full time attendance.
Examinations
read moreThis is a test to check your vision and to provide a prescription for glasses if necessary. The health of the internal and external eye will be checked and if appropriate we will measure your eye pressure and check your peripheral vision. This test is freee of charge on the NHS to eligible groups of people at specified intervals. Please see our NHS page for more details. You may upgrade to our Gold Eye Examination for a supplementary fee. This is a comprehensive eye examination, which will include assessing the need for vision correction, examining the internal and external eye, measuring eye pressures and peripheral vision and will also include retinal imaging and macular pigment density measurement.
