Datchet Golf Club

Sporting Club in Slough, Berkshire
Sporting Club in Slough, Berkshire Golf had been played on Datchet Mead for many years before the club's formation but in 1890 the club was officially consituted. Datchet was an interesting choice as a site for the gentlemanly pursuit of golf. For many years the town was known as 'Black Datchet' due to the huge number of bad characters who lived there. In fact a whole wing at Aylesbury County Gaol was referred to as the 'Datchet Wing' as it was filled almost entirely with residents of the town. In the early years the club had a very strong association with Eton College.

Datchet Golf Club
read moreThe course runs along the River Thames under the watchful eye of Windsor Castle. This is a nine-hole course, with fifteen tees, so only three holes are repeated on the back nine. At 6087 yards it is not a course that can be taken for granted, and as the Pros find out when they play, it commands respect. As a relatively flat parkland course, it is also easy walking and provides an enjoyable day's golf for all golfers, irrespective of age and handicap. Datchet Golf Club is one of the oldest courses in the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
