Clifford James
Shoe Store in Woking, Surrey
In 1970 Keith James Russell and Ian Clifford Garbutt had a business idea of importing specialist North American Indian moccasins to the UK market. The idea proved to be a nice one and putting together the two middle names of the two partners Clifford James was born. The footwear was extremely comfortable and it became clear that British public needed comfortable footwear at value for money prices. The business began to earn a very great reputation and by 1987 sales grew to a then record 130, 000 pairs generated from a tiny 8 page catalogue.
