Churchdown Club
Sporting Club in Gloucester, Gloucestershire
In 1922 the existing United Services Club decided, after a public meeting, to supply sporting facilities for the returning service staff from the First World War and so work was began on a four rink bowling green and tennis court. This work was completed in 1923 after archaeologists examined a possible medieval burial site where the green was to be laid. In the fifties a local aircraft factory asked if they could use the green while theirs was being laid, and jointly funded the cost of increasing the green to six rinks.
