We run many clinics for the management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes and offer a wide variety of other medical services including antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, childhood vaccinations and well-person check-ups. This GP Practice is currently restricting access for the safety of all patients and staff. The practice remains open for all essential primary care problems but on the advice of Health Protection Scotland we have put in place a process whereby everyone is screened by telephone prior to gaining access to the building.

They work closely with the doctors and, in addition to providing first Aid and general nursing services, they are available to give advice on a variety of health problems. They also offer many different clinics including Well Woman, Diabetic, Asthma and Heart Disease Prevention. Most blood tests are now taken at the Care and Treatment Centre. You can only attend there if you have spoken with a Doctor or Nurse at the practice who will request the relevant blood tests to be taken, you will then be issued with the number to contact to arrange your appointment.

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay). If you're sick and off work for more than seven days, your employer will probably ask for proof of your illness. Most employers ask for a fit note from your GP. However, this will also depend on your employer's company policy on sick leave (or sickness absence).

read moreThe practice has become increasingly aware of the use of Facebook and other Social Media platforms by patients as a means of them expressing their views regarding Broughty Family Healthcare Surgery. Due to patient confidentiality, the practice is not in a position to respond to such 'Posts', nor clarify exactly what happened and the rationale for clinical decisions. Once a 'Post' has been put online, it is almost impossible to remove and defamation laws are equally applicable to Social Media. Although we may not reply, we are frequently made aware of such 'Posts'.

read moreThere is a new Central NHS Computer System called the Summary Care Record (SCR). It is an electronic record which contains information about the medicines you take, allergies you suffer from and any bad reactions to medicines you have had. Storing information in one place makes it easier for healthcare staff to treat you in an emergency, or when your GP practice is closed. This information could make a difference to how a doctor decides to care for you, for example which medicines they choose to prescribe for you.
