Anthony Welling was widely known in the 'trade' when he was employed by the biggest shipper of antiques in the '60s. However, Nichole, Dutchess of Bedford, approached him to help in opening what was one of the 1st antique centres in the UK at Woburn Abbey (now known as Stately Antiques) and he became its 1st Administrator. In 1971 Anthony bought and converted an C18th barn in Ripley, Surrey, and opened his own business, Anthony Welling Antiques, specialising in period oak and country furniture.
