About Us
read moreOriginally studying cookery in his native France and first working in Paris, Michel came to London in the 1980s to work with such illustrious names as the Roux Brothers, Alistair Little, and with Simon Hopkinson at Bibendum. Moving to the West Country in the 90s, Michel joined Bristol's Glass Boat as head chef. By 1998 he had become a partner in Byzantium and then went on to build a reputation for quality French bistro cuisine as proprietor of the highly-regarded No.5 restaurant in Bath. Bistro La Barrique is the realisation of Michel's ambition to create an authentic French restaurant in Bath, providing the city with a creative, independent alternative to the formulaic and ubiquitous chain establishments.

read moreWe have over 760 excellent and very good customer reviews on Trip Advisor. Never fails to delight! We went there for a light lunch before going to a matinee at the Theatre Royal - it's very close by. The service was really friendly, patient and helpful. Can't wait for another visit to Bath and an opportunity to return. The food is excellent, traditionally French, but served tapas style; a stroke of culinary genius. The prices won't dent your pocket either. Staff are charming. Go there, c'est magnifique!

read moreWe carefully select our wine list to complement and enhance our seasonal menus, offering our customers the opportunity for experimentation and discovery. Many of our wines are supplied by Fine Wines Direct UK, and for many of these they are the exclusive importer. They also provide an online retail service if you've found a particular favourite. The restaurant uses a Verre-a-Vin machine, a device that vacuum seals opened bottles to prevent any oxidation of the contents. This enables us to offer wine by the glass with complete confidence that you will still experience the wine at its best.
